Police say shots that were fired at a business in Metro Vancouver are believed to be linked to an extortion case.

The Delta Police Department (DPD) says the attack happened early Friday, at around 3:30 a.m. PT, in the Tilbury Industrial Park.

Officers confirmed bullet casings were found around the site, but no one was inside at the time.

Investigators say surveillance footage shows people inside a white sedan firing multiple shots into the business before taking off.

The department’s extortion task force has taken charge of the investigation and says early evidence shows the shooting to be targeted.

Sgt. Joel Thirsk with the DPD said there had not been an extortion-related investigation started in the city for over three weeks before Friday’s shooting.

“Delta remains one of the safest cities in British Columbia and we have clear procedures in place to address extortion related files in Delta,” he told CBC News.

Thirsk did not specify which business was shot at, only saying it was in the 7500-block of Vantage Place.

There are dozens of extortion-related violence cases being investigated across B.C., with many concentrated in Surrey, where police are looking into over 50 reported extortions so far this year.
