Nanaimo RCMP say it’s likely that an e-bike battery was the cause of an explosion in a wooded area Sunday morning that led to a brief road closure of Terminal Avenue North.
In a news release, RCMP said a report came in shortly after 8 a.m. PT of an explosion near Terminal Avenue North and Cypress Street.
There were no reports of injuries or damage to surrounding property, said the release.
Police closed a section of the road “to minimize the risk to the public and to allow investigators to respond safely,” according to the release.
“Investigators located significant metal debris consistent with an explosion,” said the release.
Terminal Avenue North was re-opened to the public and vehicles at about 10 a.m. PT.
