A person from Vancouver is waiting for a bail hearing after being accused of stealing a Kamloops city bus.

According to RCMP, a 55-year-old was arrested Saturday night after officers responded to a collision between the bus and a pickup truck on Landsdown Street, in the city’s downtown.

Staff Sgt. Janelle Shoihet of the Kamloops RCMP said in a release that when officers arrived, they learned the accused had allegedly stolen the bus while the driver had temporarily stepped away.

“Thankfully, no one was physically injured,” Shoihet said.

According to B.C. court documents, the accused has been charged with motor vehicle theft, dangerous operation of a conveyance, uttering threats and theft of $5,000 or under.

A bail hearing is set for May 5.
